Hancock

two and a half stars out of five From the trailer, this had a lot of promise. However, the film itself didn’t really capitalise on what was an interesting premise – i.e. the pressure of being a superhero and being unappreciated in litigious America.

The love triangle definitely felt bolted on from another film. Still, Will Smith is not too annoying in this one – and he can be a decent actor given the right vehicle – but his character was sadly underdeveloped. The whole story felt a bit rushed & shoe-horned to fit a good commercial length, rather than given some space to explore some of the ideas a bit more. Shame, really, as there were some good moments but, overall, a film that didn’t really add up to the sum of its parts.
