Fermat's Room

three and a half stars out of five Entertaining film in the whodunnit genre – who has gathered this group of mathematicians together in a bizarrely remote location & why?

The group are locked into a room and forced to solve a series of puzzles to save their lives. However, for a bunch of number whizz-kids, they did miss out on some pretty hefty clues – i.e. the wallpaper design in the room gives a good chunk of the game away from the start, but never even gets a mention. Also, the puzzles are perhaps a bit more pub quiz than PhD, but these are minor quibbles. It’s a well-told tale with just the right balance of suspense, twists and humour to keep you glued right to the end & with that slightly old-fashioned yet timeless feel of the best of the genre.
